Police Confirms Missing Man Believed Dead as Search Intensifies Near Tirana
Police in Albania have confirmed that a 34-year-old man who disappeared ten days ago is believed to have been killed, as authorities continue an extensive search operation to locate his body.
Speaking at a press conference, Tirana Police Director Oliger Torba said investigators are actively searching for the body of Eglant Koçi in areas surrounding the capital, particularly along the border zone between Tirana and Elbasan counties.
According to Torba, the case was initially handled by Police Station No. 2 before being transferred to the Serious Crimes Unit of the Tirana Police Directorate following a detailed review of the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.
"A dedicated investigative structure has been established and is currently searching for the body of citizen Eglant Koçi," Torba said. "Search efforts are focused mainly on the outskirts of Tirana and along the dividing area between Tirana and Elbasan."
Authorities have also received assistance from Kosovo, with a specialized search team from the Kosovo Security Force joining the operation. The unit is working alongside Albanian State Police officers in an effort to locate the missing man's remains.
Torba stated that numerous locations identified through investigative analysis have already been searched, but no concrete results have been obtained so far.
The case has drawn significant public attention as Thursday marks ten days since Koçi vanished without a trace. Investigators' suspicions intensified following statements provided by waiter Enea Zyferi, leading authorities to believe that Koçi may have been killed by his friend, Armand Shakaj.
Police have not yet located the body, and the investigation remains ongoing.
