Masked Individuals Disrupt 15th Day of Civic Protest in Tirana Amid Political Tensions

The 15th consecutive day of civic protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tirana was marked by brief tensions after individuals wearing black hoodies and sunglasses reportedly disrupted the gathering, according to participants.

Organizers said the situation escalated following rumors circulating among attendees that citizens were being asked to present identification cards in order to sign a petition. Protest coordinators rejected the claims, describing them as a deliberate provocation intended to create confusion within the crowd.

The protest continued with renewed calls for the resignation of the government led by Prime Minister Edi Rama and the establishment of a transitional government. Demonstrators also expressed broader dissatisfaction with Albania’s political class over the past 35 years, using satirical and humorous banners alongside speeches delivered from a stage set up in front of the Prime Minister’s Office.

During the rally, participants highlighted the recent departure of Shkodër MP Marjana Koçeku from the Socialist parliamentary group, describing the move as a symbolic victory for the protest movement.

“Just now we received news showing how significant this protest is. One of the chess pieces has fallen; an MP has resigned from the Socialist Party. The MP from Shkodër, Marjana Koçeku, has declared herself an independent MP. This shows they are reaching their end. We must remain in the square; they will fall one by one like dominoes,” one protester said from the stage.

The gathering was also joined by residents from Durrës opposing the TID urban development project.

After speeches concluded, participants marched through the streets of the capital, continuing their demonstration peacefully.
