Germany Has Invested EUR 1.2Bln to Date
German Ambassador to Albania Karl Bergner said on Wednesday that Germany has invested around Euro 1.2 billion in various projects over the past 35 years, making Albania the top beneficiary of German assistance, ATA reported.
Speaking to the media, Bergner emphasized that Germany remains Albania’s most consistent development partner. “The goal has always been to improve living conditions for Albanians in many areas, and this effort has been ongoing,” the Ambassador noted.
He pointed to key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, sustainable development, waste management, and economic growth, where German support continues to make an impact.
“This isn’t just about better living conditions,” he added. “It’s also about helping Albania meet EU standards in various sectors. And while this doesn’t automatically guarantee EU membership, the success of these projects has drawn interest from other international donors, many of whom have already joined us”.
On the other hand, Iven Schad, Head of German Development Cooperation (GIZ), focused on climate and energy, noting that about 70% of the funds go toward the energy sector.
“We’re also investing in water and sewage. Nearly half the population benefits. Later, we’ll visit Vlora, not just for seasonal tourism projects, but also for German-funded water and sewage systems,” he said.
Schad added that most of the assistance also supports business, innovation, and the maritime sector. “We aim to stimulate business growth, and through that, create jobs for young people,” he concluded.
