45-Year-Old Man Found Shot Dead in Northern Albania Amid Long-Running Feud Investigation
Albanian authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old man found dead inside a vehicle in the northern district of Mirditë, according to preliminary reports.
The victim, identified as Valter Lleshi, was discovered without signs of life inside a Toyota vehicle. Initial findings indicate that he sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body.
Local media reports suggest that Lleshi worked as a driver for machinery that had previously been targeted in an explosives attack several months ago.
Investigators are also examining possible links to previous violent incidents in the region. Lleshi has been suspected of involvement in the 2020 killing of Anton Keli, a taxi driver from the town of Rrëshen, although no official confirmation regarding the status of that investigation has been released.
Keli was a first cousin of Tonin Gjini and Preng Gjini, brothers whose family has been involved in a long-standing feud with the Reçi family in the Rrëshen area.
The conflict drew national attention after Tonin Gjini was killed on August 12, 2019. At the time, suspicions were directed toward members of the Reçi family, though legal proceedings and investigations surrounding the case have continued over the years.
Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the latest shooting, and investigations remain ongoing.
